First, please read the thoughts of TPAA director, Kellie Cook.

Greetings to all fellow TAC members.

A couple of years ago I had the privilege of helping to award 20- $1,000.00 scholarships to well-deserving high school seniors.  I shook hands with each one as I handed each of them their scholarship.  The sparkle in the eyes and the smile on the face of each one will stay with me for a good while.  I wondered what life would hold for each one of those fine young people.   I would suspect that some of them would have been unable to attend college had they not received scholarships and/or grants to help them along the way.

Think back a bit.  Maybe you were fortunate enough to attend college....maybe the college of your dreams.  Maybe you attended but struggled financially through your college years and still ended up with a huge student loan obligation. Maybe you were unable to attend college immediately upon graduation due to lack of funds.   As many of us did, perhaps you received your degree while trying to work and raise a family.  Maybe as life went on you were never able to achieve your dream of a college education.

The cost of higher education continues to soar.  More and more it is out of reach for some of our students.  As a group of alumni, we have the power to help some deserving Richland County High School graduates with the cost of a college education or technical program.

If you are looking for a new and different way to honor someone consider a contribution to TPAA. If you wish, you may donate in honor of a teacher, mentor, family member or other special person who helped pave the way to your success.

The Tiger Pride Alumni Association, a 501 (c)3, not for profit organization, is an all-volunteer organization, and entirely dependent on your generous donations.  All gifts, large or small, are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.   Now is your chance to help a deserving student realize their dream.

If you are in a position to help a graduating senior make their dream of further education post high school come true, please consider a donation to TPAA.

Thank you for supporting The Tiger Pride Alumni Association and the students of Richland County.

2019 TAC - TPAA Volunteers

Happy Days!

I volunteer at the local library.  Like all library loan networks, we share books with all the libraries in our system.  Patrons at other libraries can request books from us and our patrons can request books from their library.

My service has changed, but until recently it was to sort the books on arrival.  I usually worked alone.  If we received too much or get the shipment late in the afternoon, I got help.

Recently, the head librarian, who had been helping, stayed by me when we had finished.

She asked about my week -- if the other days of my week were just as much 'fun' -- said with a smile.

I smiled, said "Well, Yes!," and shared with her that we are in the middle of our annual scholarship drive.  I continued, "That, in total, over the last seven years, we have raised over $91K for scholarships for our high school graduates."

She said "Wow!" and praised us – you members and me -- and asked more questions including about my volunteer time to the charity.

“It’s like a part-time business that's a constant joy!  I have a dozen volunteers who are fun to know and who add to the joy of helping our youth."

I talked about the joyful, smiling recipients!  I used the experience that Director Kellie Cook shared, as in her comments above.

Let's remember to help our youth!  Mail your check today!
