Ruth Marie (Buss) Schaub Sayre, 96, of Olney, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at Brookstone Estates.

Ruth Marie (Buss) Schaub Sayre was born July 1, 1927 in German Township, IL to Herman Buss and Freda (Sterchi). She married Jack L. Schaub on June 10, 1046, in Olney, Illinois. Jack preceded her in death on June 11, 1975. Ruth married Robert D. Sayre on May 10, 1980 in Olney, Illinois.

Ruth grew up on the family farm in German Township working alongside her father. She drove a tractor and baled hay while her brother served in the Air Corps during WWII. She attended Eyer School, a one room schoolhouse, and then graduated from Olney Township High School.

Ruth had a long career in banking, starting right out of high school, and retiring in 1987. She was also a faithful member of the First Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Ruth was a self-taught excellent cook and loved to sew and crochet. She loved to play golf and won the Class A Championship at the Richland Country Club. Ruth also enjoyed playing bridge and hosting her friends.

Ruth is survived by husband, Robert D. Sayre of Olney; step-daughters, Linda Rock, Angela Cordell, Susan (Bob Orlandini) Duncan, and Sally (Lonnie) Wilson; 9 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jack Schaub; son, Richard L. Schaub; brother, Paul Buss Sr.; sister-in-law, Mary Buss; and step-son, Mike Gaede.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements. A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on May 9, 2024 at Global First Methodist Church, 335 S Fair St, Olney. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will take place following the service at Haven Hill Cemetery.
