Melvin E. Kimmel

Melvin Everette Kimmel, 81, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.

Melvin was born August 7, 1942 in Parkersburg, Illinois, the son of Robert V. and Lois (Brewer) Kimmel. He married Mary Lou (Lathrop) on October 27, 1962 in Olney, and she survives.

Melvin was a farmer for several years, worked for Bauman Oil Well Cementing, was a commodity broker for Delta Commodities, and worked several other jobs throughout his life. Melvin was a 4-H member and past president of the Olney FFA. He was also a member of the Richland County Fair Board and a charter member of the Richland County 4-H Foundation. He was also a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Melvin enjoyed many activities including bee keeping, gardening, drag racing, and sharing coffee with friends.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Kimmel of Olney; son, Mark Kimmel and wife Janet of Noblesville, IN; son, Murl Kimmel and wife Rhonda of Weldon, IL; grandsons, Jared (Monica Richards) Kimmel and Cole (Alexis) Kimmel, great grandson, Lincoln Kimmel; brother, Wayne (Bridget) Kimmel of Vincennes, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; and three nephews.

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.  A funeral service will be held for Melvin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

Interment will follow at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney
