Allen Welker

Allen D. Welker, 82, of Olney, passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Mr. Welker was born on May 17, 1926, in Olney, the son of Clem and Charlene (Harms) Welker. He married Virginia F. Watson on August 7, 1949. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1986. He married Laverne Jones on February 18, 1988. She preceded him in death on December 4, 2007.

He retired as Postmaster in Olney, had also served as deputy sheriff of Richland County and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Olney, Olney Elks having served as past Exalted Ruler, Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Richland Country Club.

Mr. Welker is survived by his daughter, Janice Crosby and her husband, Rick, of Ruskin, Fla.; daughter, Joyce Sarnie, of Olney; son, Richard Welker and his wife, Ann, of Riverview, Fla.; stepchildren, H. Melvin "Mel" Lukens and his wife, Stacey, of Warrenton, W.V., Linda Lukens Grider and her husband, William R., of Kokomo, Ind., Lisa Lukens Boyle and her husband, Tom, of Evansville, Ind., and Laura Lukens Parker and her husband, Barry, of Evansville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Charles Jones and Max and Bob Hocking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives and two sisters.

Burial was in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney with full military rites performed by Olney veterans.
