Gretchen Weber (Whittaker)

Winter storm blamed for one death so far in Wisconsin ~

At least one person has been killed by the massive snow-and-ice storm that’s hitting Wisconsin for a second day. The Vernon County sheriff said 69-year-old Gretchen Whittaker of Viroqua died last night March 22, 2011, after her vehicle slid off an icy Highway 27. It crossed the center line and veered into a ditch.

The National Weather Service said parts of Vernon County had up to an inch and a half of liquid precipitation caused by a mix of rain, snow, and sleet. Parts of northeast and north central Wisconsin had a foot or more of heavy, wet snow by mid-morning – and it was still coming down.

Gretchen was born June 19, 1941 the daughter of Dr. Frank J. and Mary W. McDermott Weber.

Just a note:  I only found out a few months ago what had become of my bf of several years.... broke my heart to know Id never be in touch with her again. I had tried in vain for so long to do so. We were bf's until my family moved to  a suburb of Chicago in Christmas of my freshman year of hs.... she was a year ahead of me and over time, and as I moved again...to Colorado... and then to Hawaii...before I returned to Olney... we lost touch. We had such a wonderful time as friends when we were in junior high school and  over our summers.... and as I started to join her at ERHS. I will always miss her. She was a very special friend .
