John Linder - Class Of 1948

John Linder

John William Linder was born June 10, 1930 at the family home in German Township, Richland County to Albert William and Della Elizabeth (Urfer) Linder. John passed on to be with his Lord September 17, 2020 at the age of 90 years.

He was a graduate of the only class of Olney Area High School in 1948. John served in Korea building air fields as a member of the Army engineers during the Korean Conflict. Two weeks after his return from overseas September 27, 1953 he married Norma G. Hardacre in Lawrenceville. In February 1971, John established Linder Farm Supplies which he and Norma operated serving agriculture needs of southeastern Illinois farmers until retiring in November 2001. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church.

During his lifetime, John’s service to his community included board member of Olney Livestock Commission, coach of Jr League Football and Little League Baseball at all levels, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, Deacon and Elder, Hospice volunteer for 15 years and Lawrence County Correctional Center volunteer chaplain.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years and their four children and spouses; Susan K. Hannasch (Rick), J. Michael Linder (Beverly), Deborah Linder-Watts (David) and Mark W. Linder (Michelle); also surviving are seven grandchildren; Tyler Hannasch, Taylor Pruess, Richard Linder, Morgan Watts, Tucker Watts, Heather Mulley, Laura Linder and one brother, Lester E. Linder.

Predeceasing John in death, are his parents, sister Miriam Getz, granddaughter Kristina A. Linder and grandson Bradly C. Linder. 

Services will be held on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 11 AM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Baker officiating with visitation one hour preceding the service. Burial will follow at Saron Grand Prairie Church cemetery.
