Herman Eberhardt - Class Of 1918

Herman L. Eberhardt, 56, better known as "Curly," proprietor of Eberhardt's Hatchery, near West Liberty, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 31, 1955, at the Veterans' Hospital in Marion after being a patient there for the past three weeks. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post at Newton.

Mr. Eberhardt was a former grid star on the Olney High School Southern Illinois championship squad in 1916-18, and later graduated from the University of Illinois.

He developed the hatchery at West Liberty to a point where it received national accrediting and several times received national recognition in poultry development.

Mr. Eberhardt was a very active Kiwanian at Olney until his recent illness.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Jeanne Huss of Beardstown, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Schaub Funeral Home, with Rev. H. L. Main officiating.
