Mrs. Martha Cliffe (Phillips) Wood, age 29, wife of Harry H. Wood, died this morning, December 21, 1923 at 4 o’clock at her home in Alton, Illinois. She had been in a dying condition for months. The body will be taken to Olney, Illinois for burial.

Mrs. Wood was born in Olney, Illinois January 11, 1894 daughter of James E. and Nellie (Cliffe) Phillips. She married Henry Hale Wood.

Mrs. Wood’s health broke down last summer. She had been in what appeared to be excellent health up to the time she became afflicted with a kidney trouble.

Mrs. Wood has been attended in her last illness by her sister, Mrs. Thomas Kelly of Muskegon, Michigan.

There will be no funeral services at Alton, but services will be held at Olney, Illinois whence the body will be taken Sunday morning. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney.

Mrs. Wood was a graduate of the Olney Township High School, class of 1911. She was married to Mr. Wood at Kansas City, Missouri in March 1916. She was one of Olney’s  most popular young ladies when here and her untimely death saddens the hearts of her many friends and relatives here.
