Ben F. Alvord - Class Of 1917

Ben Finley Alvord, 94 of Auburn, Alabama died Tuesday, November 13, 1990 at East Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Alvord was born in Richland County, Illinois on February 16, 1896 son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry N. Alvord.

He began teaching at Auburn University in 1929 and retired from there in 1966. He was a veteran of World War I. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from University of Illinois and did additional graduate work at the University of Minnesota. He was an agricultural extension specialist at Montana State University, a member of Auburn Kiwanis Club for 40 years and was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church and the Bruce McGhee Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Major) Alvord; a son, Ben M. Alvord of Dallas; 2 daughters, Ann A. Brush of Davis, CA and Jean Parker of Rochester, NY; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery according to Jeffcoat Funeral Home, Opelika.
