DeWitt Shy - Class Of 1917

C. DeWitt Shy, 81, died Tuesday, April 22, 1980 at his home in Memphis, Tennessee after a long illness. Mr. Shy was a former Olney resident.

Graveside services in the Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. The Treadwill-Canale Funeral Home in Memphis in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DeWitt was born and raised in Olney, son of Walter C. and Minerva E. (Spain) Shy and moved to Memphis in 1922 following World War I. He married Genevieve Malone and she died in 1967.

He is survived by a son, DeWitt M. Shy, Memphis; a brother, Frank S. Shy, East Greenwich, R.I. and a sister, Mrs. Virginia Funk, Hemet, Calif.

He operated H.M. Spain and Co. Timber Estimators for many years. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Director of the University Club, The Tennessee Club and the Lumbermans Club.
