Martha Shields (Rieger) - Class Of 1914

Margaret Martha (Shields) Rieger, age 91, died November 24, 1984. Margaret was born February 22, 1893 in Olney, Illinois a daughter of Stephen L. and Ella (O’Donnell) Shields. Came to Oklahoma City in 1918. Attended Central State Teachers College in Edmond, Oklahoma. Taught elementary and secondary Schools in Oklahoma City. Married February 22, 1922 to Alois C. Rieger.

Both were charter members of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church when it was founded in Oklahoma City. She was very active in the St Francis of Assisi Church, the Altar Society and Parish Chapter of League of Sacred Heart. Margaret and her husband were both very involved in all parish activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alois C. Rieger, a son, Aloysius C. Rieger, a grandson, Gary E. Debee, a brother, James O. Shields and sisters, Lola Kaufman and Anna Shields.

Survivors include four sisters, Nellie F. Nolan, Stella Hastings and Lois Hoagland, all of Tulsa and Hester Eggerman of Oklahoma City, daughters, Margaret E. Debee of Oklahoma City, Anna C. Carter of Minneapolis, Minnesota, sons, John F. Rieger of Oklahoma City, Vincent P. Rieger of Atlanta, Georgia, 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial in Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City.
