James A. Weber - Class Of 1907

Dr. James August Weber, Sr., 64-year-old member of the nationally known medical family of Olney, died at noon Tuesday, November 13, 1951, in his home. He was born January 17, 1887, a son of Benedict and Eva R. (Schafer) Weber.

He was one of four doctor brothers who founded, owned and operated the Olney Sanitarium. The three other doctors also are dead.

The sanitarium was founded in 1898, in what formerly was the Arlington Hotel, by Dr. George T. Weber. Two sisters, Minnie and Katharina, now retired, were nurses in the sanitarium and also helped manage it.

Besides the sisters, Dr. Weber leaves his wife, Eugenia M. (Powers) Weber; three sons, Dr. Eugene, St. Louis, Dr. James, Jr, an Olney dentist and John C., Olney; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Rye, Monroe, Mich, Mrs. Kitty Fye, Olney and Mrs. Mary Redman and Mrs. Eugenia Edmiston, both of Olney.

Dr. Weber was a graduate of Olney High School and St. Louis University Medical School. He practiced medicine in Poplar Bluff, Missouri for a year before joining the sanitarium staff in 1913.

Funeral services held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Olney with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.
