A former teacher at Herrin High School and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Gertrude Wallace (Fleming) Crichton, 86, of Herrin, Illinois died Monday, June 9, 1975 at her home.

She was born October 5, 1888, in Arlington Heights to George Wallace and Ellen (Goodfellow) Fleming. Mrs. Crichton married George K. Crichton September 19, 1918 in Olney. He died January 1, 1954.

She was a member of the Herrin Women’s Club, the Herrin Library Board, an active member and Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin.

Survivors include two daughters, Grahame Coffee of London, England and Jane Crichton of Herrin; a son, George J. Crichton of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Ellen Martin of Western Springs; a brother, John G. Fleming of San Diego, CA and seven grandchildren.
