Essie LeSure - Class Of 1907

Miss Essie LeSure, 79, of Champaign, Illinois and a native of Olney, passed away Tuesday night, October 15, 1968 at the Urbana Americana Nursing Home in Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Mittendorf Funeral Home at Urbana, with Rev. Jual Ford, Pastor of the Wesleyan United Methodist Church of Urbana, officiating.

The remains will be brought to Olney where graveside services will be held at Haven Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society in Champaign.

Miss LeSure, who retired from teaching in 1954, was born in Olney on November 7, 1888, daughter of the late Charles M. (Dick) and Elizabeth Matilda (Proctor) LeSure. Her father operated a candy store in Olney for many years.

She attended grade school and graduated from the Olney high school about 60 years ago. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. She taught in the Champaign high school from 1922 until her retirement in 1954.

She was a member of the Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Urbana and the National Retired Teacher’s Association.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. E.A. (Blanche) Curtis of Aurora, Illinois, and a niece, Mrs. Betty Kibidds of Detroit, Michigan.
