Edna M. Landis (Welnick) - Class Of 1906

Rosary for Edna Mae (Landis) Welnick, 93, who came to Phoenix in 1912 from her native Illinois and died May 4, 1981 in a Glendale Nursing home, will be in Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home on N. Second Ave.

Mrs. Welnick and her late husband, Leo J. Welnick who died in 1969, operated Welnick’s Market until they sold it in 1951.

She was born September 22, 1887 in Richland County Illinois a daughter of Philip S. and Emma D. (Gilkison) Landis.

She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, St. Mary’s Altar Society and a founding member of St. Mary’s Mothers Club. She had assisted St. John’s Indian Mission.

Surviving are her sons, Leo Jr., Michael and Thomas Welnick; a sister, Verna M. McKinley; two brothers, Sherman P. Landis and Benjamin H. Landis; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James J. Landis.

Burial in Saint Francis Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ
