Nellie Aileen Ridgley (Horner) - Class Of 1905

Services for Nell Ridgley Horner of Hayti, Missouri, were held on October 4, 1983 at the first Presbyterian Church with Dr. Paul Currie officiating. Burial was in Little Prairie Cemetery, Caruthersville, Missouri, with Dean Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. Horner died at the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital on October 2, 1983 at the age of 96.

The daughter of Charles and Eliza Ellen (Clark) Ridgley, she was born on February 14, 1887 in Olney, Illinois. She attended the public schools of Olney and Anna, Illinois. For five years, Mrs. Horner taught in the public schools of Calhoun and Olney, Illinois while continuing her education each summer at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.

On May 28, 1910 she was married to Paul Lynn Horner and moved to their new home in Caruthersville - her home until her death. Mr. Horner preceded her in death on October 7, 1968.

Throughout her life Mrs. Horner supported programs for community betterment. She was a charter member of Chapter DM of P.E.O. and a charter member of the Caruthersville Woman's Club. An active member of the Presbyterian Church for 73 years, she taught the high school girl's class for over 40 years, sang in the choir, and was a leader in the women's work.

She is survived by one daughter, Miss Mary Ellen Horner of Caruthersville; one sister, Mrs. Curtner Pierce, Caruthersville; five nieces, Mrs. Jack H. Tipton and Mrs. Grace Nasci, of Caruthersville, Mrs. Frank Mollenhour, Blue Springs, Missouri and Mrs. Jesse Ann Wenzlick, St. Louis; one nephew, Col. Charles D. Ridgley, San Antonio, Texas; nine great nieces and nephews, and eleven great, great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dennis Bracey, George Cook, Jim DeReign, Jim Moore, Ted Street, and Bill Watkins.
