Denise Garrett (Shultz)

Denise “Smoke” (Garrett) Shultz, 68, of Olney, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at her residence. Denise was born May 22, 1955 along with her twin sister Clarise in Marietta, OH, daughters of James Floyd and Edwyna (Cook) Garrett. She married Ricky Allan “Butch” Shultz on December 31, 1983 and they shared 22+ years of marriage until his passing February 20, 2006.

Denise always had a strong relationship with her twin Clarise and lived and cared for Clarise during Clarise’s illness until her passing January 6, 2019. Denise then remained living and caring for her brother-in-law, Paul Long until his passing February 2, 2022.

Denise loved animals, particularly dogs and cats. She most recently had taken in a foster cat, Charcoal. Denise would also feed the squirrels and birds and enjoyed watching the squirrels antics out the window while working on jigsaw puzzles. Denise was a member of the Women’s Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed socializing with friends at the Legion. Denise was an avid Nascar and football fan. Denise and Clarise were very well known for their time working at Little Farm Market and Denise later worked at Foxwood Industries, J. Wilderman Autoplex as a detailer and Illini Wire Works until she retired.

Denise is survived by her sister, Bea (Rich) Camara of Phoenix, Arizona, brothers-in-law Darrell (Rosemary) Kuhl-Olney, Jeff (Peggy) Fye-Edmond, Oklahoma, Debb Thomas-Olney, James Shultz- Olney, Pamela Shultz-Olney, Gene Shultz-Noble and numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Rosemary (Darrel) Kuhl, brother Carl Garrett, twin sister Clarise (Paul) Long, brother Jimmy Garrett, and sister Peggy (Jeff) Fye.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation Rites were accorded.
