Gary Tolliver - Class Of 1966

Sam Jarvis, Class of '66, provided this information for the late, Gary Tolliver as a guest member. Gary attended our 50th class reunion and had attended grade school at Central School with some from this class.

Gary Lee Tolliver, age 69, of Olney, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, January 8, 2018.

He was born January 21, 1948 in Effingham, the son of Carl and Ruth (Olson) Tolliver.

Gary loved the Lord and proudly related the story of his baptism in 1958, by Billy Graham, in the lake at the Charlie Brown Park in Flora. Gary served his country with pride and honor as a United States Marine. He served in Vietnam in 1967-1968 and was at Khe Sanh during the Tet offensive. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the Rolling Thunder organization. This organization honors veterans for their service and reminds us not to forget those missing in action. Gary loved to cook and made the best pork steaks with his special BBQ sauce. He liked to fish, make knives, and he liked to tease and laugh with those that worked around him. Gary worked for the State of Georgia as a prison guard until his retirement.

Gary married Elaine Ard Shealy on August 20, 1988 in Albany, Georgia. She preceded him in death on January
8, 2016.

Gary is survived by his son Carl (Amy) Vanmatre, step son John Shealy, daughter Charlotte Echiss Prieur, Cathy (Mike) Fitch, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Brothers Ron (Betty)Tolliver , Bill (Diana) Tolliver, Wesley (Lynn) Tolliver, Steve (Molly) Tolliver, sister Carlene Karn, loving friend Rachael Toner, and many nieces and nephews.

Per his request no services will be held.
