Mary Doherty Roberts (P'Burg Elem -1, 2)

Mary Lou Roberts, 55, Lawrenceville, diedTuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Funeral services at Parkside Elementary School in Lawrenceville. Burial in Pollard Cemetery.

Mary was born November 15, 1947 in Olney, IL the daughter of William E. and Betty R. (Kutch) Doherty. She graduated from East Richland High School, going on to Olney Central College and Eastern Illinois University.

Roberts had taught first and second grade classes for 30 years in Community Unit School District 20, and at Parkersburg Elementary from 1970 thru 1974, influencing literally hundreds of young people and more than a few adults, along the way.  According to Parkside Principal, Judy Phipps, Mary Robert's legacy will be remembered not only at the school, but throughout the community, she was a "class act".

Survivors include her husband, Richard Roberts of Lawrenceville; a son, Scott Roberts of Lake City, Tenn.; a daughter, Jamie Shidler of Bellevue, Neb.; two brothers, Tony Doherty of Vincennes, and Jeff Doherty of Carbondale; one sister, Patricia Hamilton of Bruceville, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
