Rolla Jaques (Erjh -Ss)

Rolla W. Jaques, age 73, of 434 E. Lafayette Street, and one of Olney's finest citizens, passed away last night, Sunday, September 16, 1973 at the Richland Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past four weeks. Funeral services in the Memorial Chapel of the Summers Marshall Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Shaich officiating. Interment in the Graceland Cemetery at Albion.

Mr. Jaques was born in Edwards County, near Albion, and was the son of John Jaques and Mary Rigg Jaques. He married Lola Thread on April 3, 1926 at Albion. He was a long time member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and had served the church as an Elder and Deacon for many years and had also served as Chairman of the Board of the church.

He was active in many phases of community life. He had served as an instructor of Manual Arts in the Olney school system from 1926 to his retirement in 1960. He served a period of 13 years on the Board of Review in Olney and had served on the Olney Carnegie Public Library board for several years and had served as President of that Board

He was active in the Retired Teachers Association and in other various other community activities.

He is survived by his wife, Lola, and a sister, Mrs. Ada Hedge of Albion. There are three nieces, including Mrs. Ethel Koertge of Olney, and six nephews. His parents; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie True and Miss Etta Jaques and a brother, Harry Jaques have preceded him in death.
