Elmo Bruce (Central Elem -4, Claremont, Stringtown)

Elmo L. Bruce, 65 of 230 E. South St., Olney, died Saturday August 4, 1973 in the Richland Memorial Hospital.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served overseas in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

Mr. Bruce retired as an East Richland teacher June 1, 1973, having taught in the elementary system at Central, Claremont and Stringtown schools. He was active in educational organizations and was a member of the N.E.A., Illinois Education Association and the East Richland Education Association. Mr. Bruce was also a very active member of the First United Methodist Church and past President of the Methodist Men.

He was born October 17, 1907 in Stewardson, a son of R.E. and Nellie Brown Bruce. On June 9, 1958 he was united in marriage with Edna Mills Taylor, who survives him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three half-brothers, Herman, Bruce and Ben, all of Indianapolis, Ind. and an aunt, Mrs. Gay Messerschmitt of Denver, Colo.

Funeral services held at the First United Methodist Church in Olney with Dr. W.A. Robinson officiating. Interment in Washington Street Cemetery at Casey, Ill.
