Bernard Eagleton (Central Elem -LA, Coach)

Bernard Earl Eagleton, age 103, formerly of Olney, Illinois, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in Springfield, Illinois. He was born January 8, 1914. Services at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney with burial at Hanna Cemetery, Noble, Ill.

Bernard was a teacher, a coach, and the County Superintendent of Schools for a period of more than 35 years. During that period of time he farmed, did construction work and oil field work, and adjusted crops for Country Mutual Insurance. For the next 35 years, he worked for Country Mutual Insurance. He was active in the IEA and NEA, the Ruritan Club, the Gideons, and the Masons. He was devoted to the church and attended the Congregational Christian Church where he was a teacher, a superintendent, and a deacon.

Mr. Eagleton was a 2014 recipient of Tiger Alumni Center’s Life Time Achievement Award.

He was devoted to his beloved wife Anna, who was a florist at the Olney Greenhouses, and to his children Koneta and Lanie, and their families.

Bernard is survived by his son, Dr. Lanie (Linda) Eagleton of Springfield, IL; daughter, Koneta Eagleton-Snyder of Highlands Ranch, CO; nine grandchildren, Dr. Pamela Snyder-Archer, David Snyder, Dr. Cynthia Snyder, Zachary Eagleton, Dr. Bernard Eagleton, Irma Eagleton-Hill, Alexander Eagleton, Austin Eagleton, Michael Eagleton, and nine great grandchildren; and Brother, Charles Eagleton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, sister, and two brothers.

Susan Wall (Martin) (1964)

Mr. Eagleton was my 6th grade teacher at Central and one of my all time favorite people.  He was a kind thoughtful man who encouraged all of us to do our best and expand our horizons to include new ideas and ways of viewing the world.  My life has been better and more exciting for having known him.
