Joan Catharine Madden (Frank) - Class Of 1947

Joan Madden Frank, 83, passed away September 27, 2012 in Sandy Springs, GA.

She is preceded in death by her parents Doris and Gordon Madden and her husband Ret. Captain David W. Frank, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Vicki Frank Bachman and her husband Bob of Marietta, GA , her son Michael David Frank and his wife Kelley of Irondale, AL; her grandchildren Jason Frank of Douglasville, GA, Ryan Frank of Lawrenceville, GA, Ashley Bachman of Atlanta, GA, Kristen Frank of Seale, AL and David W. Frank III of Irondale, AL; her great grandchildren Josh Frank of Dallas, GA, Tate Frank of Douglasville, GA, Isabelle Frank of Lawrenceville, GA and Jace Frank of Lawrenceville, GA and her great, great granddaughter Avree Frank of Dallas, GA.

Mrs. Frank was born in Olney, IL on June 18, 1929.

She did her undergraduate studies at Eastern Illinois University and received her Master's Degree from Northwestern University. Joan settled in Columbus, GA with her husband and family in 1964 where she taught Business Education classes at Perry Business College and Jordan Vocational High School, retiring from JVHS in 1987. It is her life of volunteer work and community service that she is remembered for and which she is appreciated, starting with her work with PTA, FBLA, Columbus Exchange Club, Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary and Rat Pack Ladies, to name a few. While she was in Columbus, Joan was also an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Funeral service held in the Chapel at Striffler Hamby Funeral Home, Columbus, Ga. with Rev. Helen Berenthien, formally of St. Luke United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery.
