Harley H. Harmon - Class Of 1925

Harley H. Harmon, 63, a native of Bonpas Township and retired Urbana Chief of Police, died Sunday, September 22, 1968 at Urbana, according to word received here by relatives.

Mr. Harmon moved to Urbana with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harmon in 1922.  He attended Olney high school in 1921-22.  After graduating from Urbana High School in 1925 he joined the police force and later became Chief of Police while his father, Reginald Harmon was mayor of Urbana.  Harley Harmon became disabled while serving on the police force and later entered the insurance and real estate business, which he had followed for the past fifteen years.  He was also Chairman of the Champaign Sheriff's Department Merit System.  He also owned a farm near Calhoun.

He was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Urbana and was a 32nd degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Wilson) Harmon; a son, Dan of Urbana; a brother, Major Gen. R. Harmon, retired of Arlington, Va.  He is also survived by several cousins in Richland County.

Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana, IL.
