Kenneth Thornton Kistner - Class Of 1955

Kenneth Thornton Kistner

Kenneth Thornton Kistner, 78, of Summerdale, Alabama, loving husband, proud father and grandfather, talented jazz musician, dedicated teacher, mentor and inspirational friend passed away quietly, as was his way, on Nov. 19th, 2015.

Ken was born October 19, 1937 in Illinois, son of Thornton W. and Lucille (Craig) Kistner.

He is survived by Barbara Jennings Kistner, his remarkable wife, friend and loyal co-pilot of 56 years. Three devoted children, Janet, Susie, Rob and sons in-law Dave and Pat who will forever believe that each was his favorite. Four amazing grandchildren Ryan, Alex, Kelsey, and Aidan, who will always believe in themselves thanks to grandpa.

Preceded in death by his dad, Thornton, a renaissance man before the phrase was invented, and his mother Lucille "Peg" Kistner, who lit the fire in his eyes and taught us all how to laugh at ourselves.

After 10 years of traveling, Ken and Barb settled in at the warm and friendly Rainbow Plantation which became home. We will gather at Rainbow Plantation's Clubhouse near Gulf Shores Alabama to celebrate his life.   After the holidays a night of music and memories will follow in Chicago.

Memorial Service held at the Rainbow Plantation Club House.
