George William Geis

G. William Geis, 68, of Glen Ellyn died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Olney, Illinois and grew up in Noble.  A memorial was held at Leonard Memorial Home in Glen Ellyn with Rev. John Freidheim officiating.  Inurnment is private.

He was director of bands and music chairman at Addison Trail High School from 1967 until his retirement in 1994. After completing military service, he taught in Chenoa and Moline schools. He attended the University) of Illinois, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music education. He also directed instrumental ensembles at Roosevelt and Benedictine universities. With Addison Cultural Arts Commission, he established and directed the Addison Community Band. He served as state chairman of the American School Band Directors Association and was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia honorary. He was an avid golfer and skier.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two children, Karl (wife Michelle) Geis of Salt Lake City and Karen (husband Trevor) McGehee of Mount Home, Ark.; and three grandchildren.
