Capt. Sterchi to be Buried at Jefferson Barracks

Funeral arrangements for Capt. Frederick W.T. Sterchi, son-in-law of City Collector, Koeln, who died Saturday, November 2, 1929 in a military hospital at San Francisco, California, are held in abeyance pending the arrival of the widow with the body, late Wednesday afternoon.

The funeral it is thought, will be held Friday at the Koeln home, 3628 Loughborough Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri. Burial will take place in the military cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.

Capt. Sterchi died of a heart attack. He was 38 years old and had been in charge of prisoners on Alcatraz Island for the last two years. When he was married to Miss Geraldine Ann Koeln in 1926, he was stationed at Jefferson Barracks with the Sixth Infantry. Later he attended the infantry school at Fort Benning, Georgia and subsequently was transferred to Alcatraz.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sisters, Edna, Anna and Clara who live in Olney, Illinois, his birth place.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Elisabeth (Urfer) Sterchi and a brother, Edward Henry Sterchi and sister, Martha Sterchi.
