Tom Hardman - Class Of 1910

Thomas Thornley Hardman, 53, Terre Haute, Indiana resident who acted as city engineer for Clinton, died at the Union Hospital in Terre Haute Monday, September 16, 1946 following a heart attack. He was born in Olney, Illinois September 15, 1893 son of Thomas A. and Julia (St.John) Hardman.

Mr. Hardman, known throughout the midwest as a consulting engineer, designed and supervised the construction of the Clinton sewage disposal plant, the Seventh Street bridge and had drawn up plans for the new water works system in the city.

Mr. Hardman had been associated with Clinton engineering problems for the past several years, having assumed his duties during the Zinc administration and continuing through to the present.

He was a 1914 graduate of Rose Polytechnic Institute and held degrees in civil and mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War I as an engineer in installation of submarine detection equipment. He had designed and directed many water and sewage disposal plants throughout Indiana and Illinois.

Mr. Hardman held memberships in the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers, Indiana Engineering Council, Central States Sewage Works Association, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Evansville Masonic Consistory and Zora Temple Shrine.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Anne (Milone) Hardman, a son, Richard T., his mother, Mrs. Julia Hardman and sister, Mrs. Katherine Davis, both of Olney, Illinois.

Funeral services were held in Terre Haute with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
