Bascom French - Class Of 1909

Bascom P. French, age 86, of 609 St. John Street passed away this morning (October 1976)  in the Richland Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services at Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Gibbs officiating.  Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Mr. French was a native of Lawrence County and was born August 12, 1890 at Sumner, the son of Bascom P. French and Serilda Colhouse French.  He was married to Hattie B. Hall in May of 1917.  He was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church.  Mr. French was a familiar figure in Olney having operated the Olney Plumbing and Heating Company in Olney for many years where he was considered an outstanding caftsman in his business.

He was a veteran of World War I and had at times belonged to the American Legion Post in Olney but had dropped his membership due to ill health.

He leaves his wife, Hattie; one son, Bascom P. French Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; two grandsons, Michael E. French of Olney and Bascom P. French IV of Dayton, Ohio and one great-grandson, Tonah French of Olney.

His parents and several brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.
