Harlen Ray Humes, age 29, of Evansville, Indiana, and formerly of Olney, Illinois, departed this earth on December 26, 2023, at home in Olney where he wanted to be surrounded by his family and his dog Kohi.  He was born October 29, 1994, in Olney, the son of Trichell Lynn and Barbara (Cochran) Humes.

Harlen was a 2013 graduate of East Richland High School and went on to earn a degree in mechatronics engineering from Vincennes University.  He owned and operated Olney Vapor and had spent most of his time working with electronics, music, and in construction.  In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing video games, anime/manga, furthering his education, fishing, and riding dirt bikes.  Harlen’s deep love for others has caused him to be separated from family and friends that still love him.  He had many dreams and goals left unfinished and he will forever be loved and missed.

He is survived by his parents: Barbara (Brian) Spurlock of Olney and Trichell Humes (Darla McWhirter) of Olney; 3 brothers: Robert (Marti) Humes of Charleston, Brandon (Jessica) Humes of Olney, and Shawn Humes of Olney; 4 sisters: Crystal (Matt) Bullard of Charleston, Angie Davis of Edinburgh, Thelma “Keileen” Humes of Olney, and Ashley Humes of Olney; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved dog Kohi.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Robert Humes and Lulabelle Gladwin; maternal grandparents: Harlen and Eileen Cochran; siblings: Angel Jean, Angel Lynn, and Meilee Gailann Spurlock; an uncle: Robert Cochran; and a nephew: Jameson Humes.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
