Leona LeMay (Eaton) - Class Of 1916

Leona (LeMay) Eaton, 92, of Olney died Wednesday, February 19, 1992 at Richland Memorial Hospital. A private family service held at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home. The body of Mrs. Eaton, per her request, was donated to medical science.

Mrs. Eaton was born in Richland County October 19, 1899, the daughter of William E. and Olive C. (Martin) LeMay. She married J. Mack Eaton November 29, 1922. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Eaton graduated from Illinois Teacher’s College (Eastern Illinois) in 1920 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois in 1922. Mrs. Eaton was a retired school teacher and former employee of the Richland County Superintendent of Schools.  Mrs. Eaton was an active member of Sunday School and Presbyterian Women at the First Presbyterian Church in Olney. She served for Boggs Academy in Georgia, was honorary Christian Education member and an ordained deacon in 1959.

Mrs. Eaton is survived by one son, J. Mack Eaton of St. Croix, the Virgin Islands; one son-in-law, Leland Jared of Olney; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Eaton was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lawrence LeMay, her daughter, Jacqueline Eaton Jared and life-long friend and companion, Carrie L. Winter.
