Hobart Gardner - Class Of 1916

Hobart M. Gardner, 89, of 615 W. Chestnut in Olney, Ill. died Monday at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Services at Summers Funeral Home in Olney with burial in the Crest Haven Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 27, 1896 in Claremont, the son of Hugh M. and Christena (Heckler) Gardner. He married Agnes E. Schmoker on Feb. 4, 1918, and she preceded him in death in 1965. He married Helen Clem on Sept. 29, 1966, and she preceded him in death in 1975.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Ruth) Kester of Olney and Mrs. Louis (June) Stiver of Carlinville; a step-daughter, Evelene Helgen of Charles City, Iowa; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and one step-daughter.

He was a real estate agent who worked with Doyle McKinney Real Estate for several years. He also worked for the DX Oil Co., and served as the Richland County Treasurer.

He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, the Dundas Ruritan Club and the Senior Citizens.
