John DeVore Shafer, 80, Noble, Illinois died Saturday, September 27, 1980 in the Richland Memorial Hospital. Services at the Noble Christian Church conducted jointly by Martin Stump and R. E. Dowden. Burial in the Noble Cemetery.

Mr. Shafer was born in Noble on Oct. 20, 1899 to Richard F. and Nancy (DeVore) Shafer. He married Juanita Diel in 1923, who survives him along with two sisters, Evelyn Gillen and Genelle Hawkins of Noble; two sons, John Diel Shafer of Olney and William Pat Shafer of Buras, La.; four grandchildren and five nephews.

An elder of the Christian Church of Noble and 50 year Masonic member of Noble Lodge 362, Mr. Shafer was a former grocer and Pure Oil Company employee.
