DaVon Delzell - Class Of 1940

Veryle DaVon Delzell, 70, of Noble, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 1994, at his daughter's home in Newburgh, Ind.  Funeral services at Zirkle Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Ozment officiating. Burial in the Crest Haven Memorial Park.

Delzell was born June 22, 1923, in Richland County, in Denver Township, the son of Lester and Ruth (Cazel) Delzell. He married Jane Colborn on Feb. 14, 1944, in Joliet.

He was retired as Superintendent of the Richland County Department of Public Aid. He also farmed and worked in the oil field. He was a member of the American Legion in Noble.

He is survived by his wife, of Noble; a son, David Delzell of Edwardsville; five daughters, Mary Lucas of Bethesda, Md., Theresa Slankard of Newburgh, Ind., Ruth Walsh of Fairview Heights, Jane Laughton of Clay City and Dee Jenkins of Bloomington; his mother, Ruth Delzell of Noble; a brother, DeVere Delzell of Clinton and 10 grandchildren.

Delzell was preceded in death by his father.
