John Murray - Class Of 1923

John T. Murray, 80, of Fort Myers, Fla., with a part-time residence in Jacksonville, died at 8:07 a.m. Sunday at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born June 26, 1905, in Noble, the son of George W. and Margaret Quinn Murray. He married Florence Bentley on Feb. 11, 1928, in Jacksonville, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Staley of Olney and Pauline Fleming of Noble and several neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, John T. Murray Jr.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and an associate member of Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Fort Myers. He also belonged to the Jacksonville Elks Club.

Mr. Murray was a photographer who moved to Jacksonville in 1923 to serve as an apprentice to the Otto Spieth Studio. He later went to Rex Studio in Peoria, and in 1927, he opened his own studio in Litchfield.

He returned to Jacksonville and purchased the Spieth Studio in 1941, and later opened the Murray Studio Inc. in Jacksonville, which he operated until December 31, 1968.
