Ernest Koertge - Class Of 1922

DEATH TAKES INSTRUCTOR AT LITCHFIELD

Ernest W. Koertge, 54, vocational arts instructor at Litchfield, Illinois High School, died Wednesday morning, October 17, 1956 in St. Frances Hospital, where he had been a patient for about 12 hours. Mr. Koertge had been a patient in DePaul Hospital, St. Louis for several weeks.

He was born near Olney, Illinois, July 12, 1902 son of William and Stella (Walter) Koertge. On April 21, 1923 he married Tressie Reckling.

He was a graduate of Eastern Illinois State College, Charleston and did undergraduate work study at Indiana State Teacher’s College, Terre Haute, Indiana and at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are his wife; his mother, of Olney; two sons, Glen of Roxana and Edward, a student at the University of Illinois; a brother, Fred of Seguin, Texas and one grandson.

Funeral services held at the Gerlt Funeral Home with additional services at Schaub Funeral Home, Olney. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney.
