Arva J. Haines - Class Of 1922

Arva Jasper Haines, 92, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 6, 1996 in St. Louis. He was born at Chauncey, Illinois on December 13, 1903 son of Willis and Minnie Anna  (Smith) Haines, both from Chauncey.

In 1914, at age 11, the family moved from Chauncey to Noble. His father owned and operated a furniture store in addition to serving as an undertaker in Noble.

Arva attended school in Noble and went on to graduate from Olney. He worked in the apple orchard industry at one time, then in 1923 he attended the University of Illinois where he actively participated in the marching band playing the drum.

On July 3, 1930, he and Rose Gross were united in marriage. Since she was from the St. Louis area, the couple made their home there. Mr. Haines worked as an accountant for the Ford Motor Company in St. Louis.

Arva was preceded in death by his wife, Utica “Rose” Haines; parents and siblings, Lillian Beth Haines who died as an infant and Maude B. McLerran.

Mr. Haines is buried in Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Ironton, Missouri.
