James Knipe - Class Of 1921

James L. Knipe, 77, of Sea Girt, New Jersey, author, economist and consultant, died Monday, November 23, 1981 at his home.  Funeral services held at the Robert C. Neary Funeral Home, Manosquan with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

Dr. Knipe was born March 31, 1904 in Marshall, Illinois, son of Henry H. and Mabel G. Knipe, was an economist and former consultant to the chairman of the Board of governors of the Federal Reserve System.  He was the author of two books.

He graduated from Yale University in 1926 and subsequently received  a master’s and PhD degree in economics.  Knipe was a visiting professor of finance at the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina from 1965 to 1967 and Professor of Banking at East Carolina University from 1967 to 1972.

Before becoming an author, professor and consultant on monetary matters, Knipe had been president and chairman of the board of directors of C.E. Hooper, Inc. of N.Y.C.; vice president, general sales manager and director of Ball Brothers Co., Muncie, Ind. and a vice president and director of Union Bag and Paper Corp, N.Y.C.

Knipe joined the U.S. Naval Reserve shortly before W.W. II.  He remained in the Navy throughout the war, rising from lieutenant to commander.

Surviving are his wife, Danielle Rolin Knipe; two sons, James Knipe of Cal. And Peter Knipe of Princeton and two grandsons.
