Olin C. Roberts, 80, Mattoon, died Tuesday morning March 11, 1980 in the Mattoon Nursing Home.

He was born in Richland County on March 18, 1899, son of William and Lucy (Perrott) Roberts. He married Lou Culbertson Caudle in Sumner on Aug. 14, 1923. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Teachers.

Mr. Roberts received a bachelor of science degree from Eastern Illinois University and a master's degree from Indiana State University. While a student at the Olney High School, he participated in football, basketball and set a number of track records. He was a member of the 1920 Sweet 16 basketball team.

He was a retired gradeschool teacher and principal for 43 years, teaching in Olney, Bridgeport, Robinson, and Villa Grove. He retired 16 years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Freda) Beals, Mattoon and Mrs. Kenneth (Veda) Laffoon, Sale, Australia, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services in Mattoon with burial in Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, Illinois.
