Sunshine E. Park - Class Of 1921

Dr. Sunshine Elizabeth Park, 83, long-time Vina, California resident died Saturday, October 29, 1988 in a Chico, California hospital. She was born May 7, 1904 in Parkersburg, Illinois, the daughter of Judge Robert K. and Dora (Clark) Park. She married Lyman V. Racster on August 17, 1935 in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Dr. Park was a veterinarian researchist.

She graduated from Olney High School in 1921 and the University of Illinois where she received her B.S. and Master’s degree in science. Prior to continuing her education at the University of Illinois, Sunshine was an instructor in the science department of the Albion County Illinois High School from 1928-1930.

As she continued her education at the University of Illinois, for several years she held a position in the bacteriology department at the University, where she received her Doctor’s degree. Various other positions held at University of Illinois as she completed her Ph. D., were Assistant, Animal Pathology 1930-31; Bacteriologist, State Department of Agriculture 1931-33; Assistant Instructor, Bacteriology 1933-36;  various extracurricular activities held concurrently with work on M.S. and Ph.D. -  bacteriology, chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition and veterinary science (animal pathology)

Surviving Dr. Park are friends, John and Doris Hampton of Vina and the Sam Fox family of Los Molinos.

Memorial graveside services at the Los Molinos Cemetery with the Rev. Geraldine Wolfe officiating. Hall Brothers Mortuary of Corning in charge of arrangements. Burial in Los Molinos Cemetery, Los Molinos, California.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Vina Fire Department.

She sounds like a very interesting woman and what a wonderful name she was given
