Christian E. Harpster - Class Of 1920

Christian Edward Harpster, 73, of Laguna Hills, California, a former Bloomington, Illinois resident died in Laguna Hills Monday, March 22, 1976 after a lingering illness. His funeral and burial were in Cypress, Calif.

Mr. Harpster was born June 24, 1902 son of Charles E. and Sophia O. (Mosser) Harpster.

Mr. Harpster lived in Bloomington from 1924 to 1944 as district manager for State Farm Insurance Company. He stayed there until 1947 when he moved to Rockford in the same capacity. He returned to Bloomington in 1951 as supervisor of agency training for State Farm and retired in 1968.

He graduated from Illinois State (Normal) University in 1928. He received a Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa in 1935. He was assistant professor of education at ISU from 1928 to 1944.

While in Bloomington, he was active in the Consistory, Kiwanis Club and Community Players.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; a son, Bob of Oakland, Calif and a sister, Catherine Harpster of Laguna Hills, Calif.
