James Jenner - Class Of 1929

James Jenner

Two Olney young men were killed and another is in a critical condition in the Flora hospital as a result of their car striking a bridge abutment on Route 25, just north of Flora, Sunday morning November 6, 1932 at 4 o'clock.

Alvin Slater, age 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Slater, who live on South Mill Street, was instantly killed and James Jenner, age 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jenner, who live on West Main Street, died on the way to the Flora hospital. Edgar Clodfelter, age 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Clodfelter, of West Main Street, is in the Flora hospital.

The accident happened as these three young men were returning to Olney after having attended a dance at Effingham Saturday night. The car, a new Chevrolet, was purchased just two months ago by Slater so that he could drive to and from his work each day at the Indian Refinery in Lawrenceville. The car was completely demolished, save for three of the tires which seem to be intact.

Just what caused the accident is not exactly clear. A farmer living near by rushed to the scene and then called for an ambulance and wrecker, which was necessary to remove the car from Slater's body. Jenner was able to help load his two chums in the ambulance and was thought to be the least hurt of the three. As they neared Flora, Jenner complained of it being stuffy and lowered one of the windows, soon after which he slumped over dead.

James Jenner was another of Olney's finest young men and was well liked by all who knew him. He has been engaged in the meat market business with his father since graduating from the Olney High School in 1929.

The Jenner funeral was held at the Baptist church with interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.
