Charles DeLong

Charles Edward DeLong, 43, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. DeLong of Claremont, was killed yesterday afternoon, August 5, 1954 in a fall from the rear of a truck, while working at the State Hospital at Anna, Illinois.

According to meagre information received here, Mr. DeLong was working on the farm of the hospital and while returning from work in the field, he fell from the bed of the truck and was killed.

Charles was born February 22, 1911 near Claremont, Illinois, the son of J.E. DeLong and Bertha Mae Powell.  The family residence is northeast of Claremont.

Mr. DeLong leaves his parents; a brother, Paul DeLong of East Chicago, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Lenear of Hammond, Ind. and Mrs. Zella Mae Gerber of East Chicago, Ind.

Funeral services held in the Amity Church with Rev. Bert Petty officiating.  Interment in the Amity Cemetery.

The body will remain in the Summers-Wilson Funeral Home until the hour of service.
