Carl Lehwald

Dr. Carl J. Lehwald, 87, of Salem died Monday July 17, 1995 at the Salem Community Hospital, Salem, Ohio.  Services at the Salem First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hamon and the Rev. Gordon Ferguson officiating. Burial in the Grandview Cemetery in Salem.

Lehwald was born July 3, 1908 in Spalding, the son of the late Rev. Herman A. and Lily (Walker) Lehwald. He married Caroline Martin February 26, 1936 and she survives.

He was a retired physician after 50 years of service. He was a member of the American Medical Association, a member of the Ohio Family Practitioners and past chief of staff of Salem Community Hospital. He was also a board member of the Salem Community Foundation, past president of the Salem Kiwanis Club, board member of the Salvation Army, former member of the Gideon's Society, board member of the Salem Historical Society and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Salem First United Methodist Church of which he was also a member.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. William (Tasi) Karen Carter of Plymouth, Mich. and Mrs. Carol Horton of Canton, Ohio; one son, Dr. C. James Lehwald Jr. of Salem, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Davis of Boardman, Ohio and Mrs. Dorothea Thompson of Jewett, Ohio; two brothers, Howard Lehwald of Mackinaw, Mich. and Richard Lehwald of Spring, Texas; six grandchilden and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
