McClellen Leathers

McClellen O’Donnell Leathers, 53, lifelong resident of Richland County, well known Olney citizen living at 722 S. Morgan Street, longtime postal employee in the Olney Post Office and veteran of World War II, died Friday evening, September 4, 1964 at the Richland Memorial Hospital after being a patient there for about two weeks.

He was born December 10, 1910 in Claremont Township, son of John H. and Jennie E. O’Donnell Leathers, later moving to Olney where he had lived for many years. At the time of his sudden illness, he was the Rural Mail Carrier for Route 2, out of the Olney Post Office.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Olney, Richland Post No. 30, American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans post, almost all of the various bodies  of Olney Lodge No. 140 A.F. & A.M., the Center Shrine Club and Ainad Temple of East St. Louis.

Mr. Leathers is survived by his wife, Elsie, a daughter, Jennie Lou, living at home, and his mother, Mrs. Jennie Leathers of Olney.

Funeral services held in the Chapel of the Schaub Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Maurice L.Winn officiating. Masonic and Center Shrine Club funeral rites at the funeral home. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery. Members of the local veteran’s organizations will render full military honors at the graveside.
