I wonder how many Tigers remember eating at the Country Kitchen. In 1963, all the members of the student council had what could only be described as a food orgy there. All sat at tables family style, and after an appropriate blessing, the gorging began. Often several salads were passed around. Then,a meat dish appeared, ,accompanied by 2 or 3 vegetable dishes and bread and rolls. When you've eaten your fill, another meat dish appears, with another 2 or three vegetables, potatoes (whipped, scalloped, fried and boiled) another salad with everything dripping butter or home made dressing. And repeat! When everyone in the room is groanig in pain, after having loosened belts and buttons to the max, the desserts start coming with several choices of pies and cakes, and cobblers warm from the oven. I think Cochrans kitchen is where the obesity epidemic in the Midwest began.

The fame of the feasts available in Passport did not remain a secret, with groups of polticians including governors feasted here on the tax payers expense, and business meetings were held between mouthfuls in that little country home.

I'm sure that there are others out ther who can attest that I do not exagerate and perhaps have their own stories about Cochrans' Country Kitchen and Evelyn and Alberta.

I agree, Pete.  It was a wonderful place to eat and to celebrate.  Many of us have fond memories of the Country Kitchen!!!
