Vernon Jones

Vernon Wesley Jones, 77, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois died Monday, August 1, 1988 in Nature Trail Nursing Home. Services in Hughey Funeral Home, burial with military rites in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Jones retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid as a Case Worker. He had previously worked as a teacher and as a salesman and distributor for Bardal Co..

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 141 and the Lions Club. He was a past commander of the State Marine Corps League. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.

He was born July 26, 1911 in Richland County Illinois to Glen and Fannie (Fulk) Jones. He married Pauline Abbott in 1947. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Loy Jones of Terrace Park, Ohio; three brothers, Merle Jones of Farmer City, Donald Jones of Decatur and Robert Jones of Bainbridge Island, Wash; one sister, Mary Hubbard of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
