Clyde L. Smith

Clyde L. Smith, 32, passed away at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis at 7 o'clock last night July 25, 1940 after a short illness of heart attack which developed into pneumonia.

Mr. Smith was born January 29, 1906 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of William E. and Mayme (Byers) Smith. Mr. Smith, who returned to Olney to make his home last year after living in Canton for serveral years, was one of the outstanding football players in Olney high school history. He was a tackle on the Olney team that won the Southern Illinois championship in 1925.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Henson and Lon Allen; two daughters, Shirley and Sharon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smith; three brothers, Elburn Smith of Olney, Rev. Clifford Smith of Chauncey, and Rev. Burl Smith of Wilmington, Delaware, and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Koertge of Olney, Mrs. Roy Pipher of Olney and Mrs. Robert Quayle of Bridgeport.

Funeral services will be held at the Olney United Brethren church Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock with Rev. Paul Milhouse officiating. Burial will be at the city cemetery at Canton, which is the former home of Mrs. Smith.

The body will remain at the Porter-Schaub Chapel until 6 o'clock this evening, when it will be taken to the home of Mr. Smith's parents, 514 N. East street, where it will remain until funeral time.
