Hampton, Virginia - Max Henry Gillaspie Sr., 75, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012.

Born in Olney, Ill., he has been a resident of Hampton since 1974.

Max retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 after 20 years, which included service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also worked a civil service position at Norfolk Naval Air Station, retiring in 1993 after 20 years and was also a manager of York Marine Boat Sales. He was a member of the TAC Tanker Group.

Max is survived by his wife of 55 years, B. Faye Gillaspie; daughters, Sandra F. Wise and husband Marty, of Hayes and Pamela M. Lawrence, of Newport News; son, Max H. Gillaspie Jr., and wife Beverly, of Matthews, Va.; sisters, Claudine Bunn and Martha Roderick, both of Olney, Ill.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be celebrated at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, followed by full military honors.
