In loving memory of Lt. Col. Matthew Lovel Tippet, Jr., 69, who passed away Thursday, September 12, 1985 at his home in San Antonio, Texas. Matt was born in Olney, Illinois on February 26, 1916 son of Matthew L. Sr. and Pearl (Elrod) Tippet.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle, San Antonio; three step-children; a sister, Mrs. John (Lucibert) Deasey, Vergil, New York and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Bail.

Matt served a total of 30 years in the United States Army. He enlisted first in 1941 and was discharged in 1945, to care for his ailing mother. He re-enlisted in 1946 and served until his retirement in 1962.
While in the army Matt served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Occupation of Japan, Pearl Harbor, European Theater of Operation, including France, Germany, Holland. He also served in the Korean Conflict. He was an attache with the American Embassy in Spain.
While serving his country, he received various medals and commendations.
Matt married Estel Phillips October 15, 1968.
He is survived by his wife Estel; children Gayle Spitz of Irving, Texas, Derrel Staley and
Tina Palmer, both of San Antonio; sons-in-law Jim Spitz and Chris Palmer; grand children, Chris, Patrick, Ashley and Justin; sister Lucibert Deasey of New York; several nieces and nephews.
Matt was a loving husband and father and will be missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace in God's arms, and his star always shine brightly.
